Remarkably, Martians had been barred from Earth airspace for several thousand years, all because of a clerical error. The law was the law, was it not? Only no one had ever truly read the entire amendment. Not only was travel and commerce allowed between the two galactic giants, but the only illegal act was the transportation of earth-worms. Due to the acidic soil of Mars, the two governments were worried the terrestrial invertebrates would grow frighteningly large and initiate Worm War II, bringing about untold destruction. After the silliness and embarrassment finally cleared, the Martian Delegation promptly made plans to offer a signal of peace and begin immediate trade routes with the product-hungry Earthlings. What followed felt entirely organic, fruitful, and calming…until an army of gigantic earthworms burst through the crust of the planet. Earth’s emissaries opened fire, nearly disintegrating the Delegations’ crafts in the process. Was this a double-cross of intergalactic proportions? Or a well-laid plan by the underground dwellers? For at least a century, the wriggly overlords towered over the land, threatening to ensnare any Martian who dared return. In response to that fateful day, the Martian Delegation released the harrowing sounds that had been recorded so that their people would never forget.
