Underwear Wolves!

Original Release Date: 06/02/4004

Every pop-culture touchstone has its copycats. The untimely release of two films that star giant asteroids; the emergence of similar-sounding murder mysteries where the villain was the hero all along; and the inevitable gimmicky band that sport the same hairdos, play the same chords, and perform that devilish trick where you swear that you’ve heard this one before. From Planet Wolf 1061c, howled Underwear Wolves! Forged in a township not too far from the members of Fangorium, one can imagine the collective eye roll that ensued when another all-wolf band hit the scene just a month later. While similar rivalries seceded always to a clear victor, Underwear Wolves!’s Steakout, inspired by a summertime hunt for their stolen instruments, proved it extremely difficult to declare a definitive winner. While dabbling more in a jazz-funk fusion of electronica, in sharper contrast to Fangoriums buzzing, thumping dance hits, Steakout enjoyed #1 status for sixteen months before being dethroned by a special edition reissue of Fangorium’s debut. Each carved out their own niche over time, though the soon-to-be-crowded all-wolf market was fast approaching.
