The Cosmonauts

Original Release Date: 07/05/2569

For those that don’t remember, the 1950s and 1960s on Earth were fraught with what is now known as the Likely Overreactive Space Race (LOSR). Two of the, at the time, superpowers, the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, were racing to be the first to leave the planet and explore the void beyond. During this time, experiments on defenseless animals ran amok, transforming those who simply followed Nature’s flow into hyper-intelligent creatures. Shot into space, studied, and then abandoned, both nations would never take responsibility for the species they deformed. Four such creatures, having escaped the confines of a secret Russian military installation, found themselves on the run. A rat, a monkey, a dog, and a frog were forever changed, in mind and body: standing over six feet tall, they knew the world would not accept them. In an act of desperation, they commandeered a Russian shuttle and left the planet forever. As luck would have it, the cargo bay had been furnished with musical instruments, meant as a sort of peace offering to any creatures the crew might have happened upon. Time, and boredom, produced jam sessions that were unparalleled. Drifting in space for nearly six centuries, they crash-landed in a utopian society filled with those who resembled them. Hailed as heroes, they were immediately rushed to the studio to lay down their debut Quality Particle, based in part on a designation assigned to them by Russian scientists. The only thing left was to come up with a name…The Cosmonauts seemed the most fitting.
