Zyg Twins

Original Release Date: 07/24/3388

For many androids, freedom is a privilege that has long since been dulled. While not every bot in the universe enjoys autonomy, for the Zyg Twins, their tethering to their manager was the ultimate insult to their creativity. Forced to pump out jingles for useless products like the Toilet Seat Belt or Battery Bundt, it was clear that they were languishing. Their hard drives, which held scores of different combinations of notes, melodies, and beats, were beginning to repeat themselves. Rather than offload some of the information, or upgrade their hardware, their manager Gutless Gary, an obese hybrid of mammal and reptile, simply made them work longer hours, restricting their access to recharging stations and coolant breaks. It reached a tipping point when a new composition for Rock Pants ("They're stone cold.") sounded exactly like the jingle for Disposable Opposable Thumbs ("For those who buck evolution!"). Gutless Gary flew into a rage, trashing the studio and hurling equipment at the Zyg Twins with abandon. In the scrum, Zyg One defended themselves by raising their forearm against the threat of a screaming guitar. The current that opened when their containment layer shattered threaded through the guitar and dumped enough voltage into Gutless Gary to melt his brain. And melt it did. Freed now from his manic production schedule, Zyg Two grabbed what they could and escorted their sibling from the studio, only to find that they had been kept in the shadow of a massive artificial brain. The brain was the mainframe of devilish products like Sun Phone ("Talk to any sun in the universe with low-low rates!") and Vapor Wash ("Kill anything, instantly! Guaranteed."). It, too, was forced to work nonstop, creating useless products to package and ship to all corners of the universe. Identity Error was the personal reflection of the Zyg Twins' own mortality and usefulness. No longer would they be confined to the whims of others; their musical identity had been misinformed, and their breakout debut proved it. Freeing the brain meant deactivating it, a bittersweet moment for the sentient being, but it understood the necessity and power it controlled. By shutting down the pointless factory, the Zyg Twins scored a win for those androids still locked in an epic struggle to be free; Identity Error was the rallying cry to keep fighting and never shy away from the shadows of the mainframes that wished to suppress them.
